What do you think?

I think the universe was slowly getting bigger but one day it went out of it's small shape and just exploded. The expansion was happening faster and faster. When the universe that was very small, the size of a golf ball, it had broke it's "atmosphere" and it all poured out. I think, if you were to be stuck in a black hole, you would slowly begin to crush. The gravity getting heavier and heavier would cause a painful death. You might see glimmers of memories as you begin to die but you might see excellent things as you pass by everything. When going through a worm hole I might see the past, present, or future. I might even end up in the future where I see how our world ends up. It would be pretty cool to see the future so if it's bad I could try to change it.

The End

I would have to say that earthquakes were my favorite Geology subject this year because I am always facinated by disasters. It was interesting to find out about how they start and things. Hurricanes were my favorite Meteorology subject because, again I'm facinated with the disasters. Both of these were cool to learn about because weather you like it or not, it's something that happens almost everyday. As for Astronomy everything was AWESOME! I love astronomy and once when I was little, before I chose to be a fighter pilot instead, I wanted to go out in space and learn everything there is to learn about space. I still want to learn everything, just I can't go out in space. : ( I think I earned a really good grade on my exam. I remembered almost everything there was on it but maybe a few things. I studied my crosswords (all from this year) and had my mom quiz me from both my book and the practice test we took. By the way, that practice test was VERY similar to the actual test. I wish I could go back and study more on the layers of the Earth. This one, I remembered most of the questions, just had a little trouble with the asthenosphere and the lithosphere. For the most part this test was pretty easy, that is if you studied.

Aliens...why not?

1. What are the four ways scientists can detect planets?

a. Radial Velocity

b. Astrometry

c. Transit Method

d. Optical Detection

2. Which way makes the most sense to you? Explain it.

Astrometry because they use Geometry for them and it's easier when they include some type of math problem.

3. Explain the concept of the "Goldilocks Zone."

When a planet is far enough away or close enough for the weather to be "just right."

4. If Gilese 581c does have life, what do you think it would look like? How would it act? Would it be intelligent?

Mutated animals to our opinion, surprised or aggressive for invasion of space, yes.

5. Do you believe in aliens? Why or why not? Give me a solid paragraph.

Possibly because they may just be as scared as us to reach out. We don't know what they're going to do if they do exist. We both are unpredictable to the other "race". We can't really know if they exist and we also have no evidence of them being here.

Planet Atmospheres

In the Jovian planets the primary gas is hydrogen. 'Though in Venus and Mars it is carbon dioxide.
I would go to Mercury because they have some oxygen so it would be easier to breath. Also, it is a smaller planet and would be easier to take care of it if I were to be there for a while. You could control how much pollution is happening when you have a smaller planet. Even though it is very close to the sun, we could make things to help protect us. Maybe someday, be able to walk around without protective gear.

ACP!!

1. Black Holes - Black holes are pretty cool. They are pretty straight forward with what they are. It is just a black hole. Black holes can kill you because it has so much gravity, but we might have categorized it too quickly. It may be a worm hole. We never know because if we look around or not our universe is too big to really tell if it is or not.

2. Worm Holes - Worm holes, also known as Einstein-Rosen Bridges, are known for their possible time travel. Scientists believe, if it is possible to time travel, worm holes are the best ways to do so. They believe that it won't just take you back maybe a couple days, weeks, or even months, but light-years! For right now, worm holes are currently believed, mostly by scientists, that they can help travel through space.

3. Mars - There have been many debates about whether we can or can't live on Mars. Still, to this day, scientists are studying to settle these nonstop debates. Mars has the nick name, The Red Planet. This planet got it's nick name by its soil being red. Origninally Mars was a religious planet, but it's lost it's meaning over the years. Mars has two moons orbiting it called Phobos and Demios, but they aren't really moons. The moons are captured asteriods.

4. Titan (one of Saturn's moons) - I always thought it would be cool to learn about another moon. Not our Moon because we see it everyday. We don't get to see a different moon, but to see one of many moons from Saturn and learn about it would be awesome. Titan is very big and if I can't choose the Andromeda Galaxy, I'm deffinitely choosing this one.

5. Andromeda Galaxy - Andromeda is just a galaxy with a huge black hole. People can consider it to be a spiral or an elliptical galaxy. It is considered a spiral galaxy only because of it's two arms. This galaxy has satellites to observe it. It also would win if it were to go against our galaxy, the Milky Way, because it's black hole is so much bigger than ours.

The Air and the Best Blog

I have to say my best blog was the one with the hurricanes. I am very familiar with hurricanes and always found them fascinating. This caused me to take an intrest and do very well. I enjoyed learning about the clouds because they were, yet again, an intrest of mine. I always wondered about them when I was little. I would also sometimes just go out and lay on the grass and look at them. Really just trying to see what they shaped like until a later age, then I started wondering how they formed. I think I should get a B because I did go off subject a little but then again did.

B meaning 85.

All About the Earth

New Century International Elementary School is planning on getting rainwater collections, geothermal A/C, and solar powered panels. Solar powered panels absorbes sun so it can be made into energy. Rainwater collections gathers water and filters it so you can get clean water. Geothermal A/C helps with controling the heating and air conditioning with natural energy. I chose Conservation and Biodiversity. Human expansion is threatening the animals. If we were to maybe start a zoo we could start saving some of the animals lives. If we can't do that then we could start bulldozing previous buildings and build on the land that was there. This was we could watch what we do and save animals lives.

Helianthus Annuus Pollen

Oak trees are affecting us the most right now with their pollen. You would need trees and plants mixed with dry and windy weather to have the perfect storm of pollen.
The pollen from the Helianthus annuus (the picture to the left) looks the coolest to me because it kind of look like thorns that you would find on other plants. This type of pollen also reminds me of the bacteria section we learned back in 8th grade. Helianthus annuus is commonly found in sunflowers. You can find this plant in the United States. A sunflower is a yellow flower with a brown center. This type of flower can get from 1 1/2 to 8 feet tall.

States of Matter

There are five states of matter. They are solids, gases, liquids, plasmas, and Bose-Einstein. To change a gas to a plasma you need higher energy. The absolute zero temperature for Kelvin is 0. The absolute temperature for Fahrenheit is -459.67 degrees. The absolute temperature for Celsius is -273.15. The temperature in space using Kelvin is 3. I would imagine plasma would look a kind of silly putty type. I would imagine it smelled funny and felt strange almost as if it were a warm goo and the taste terrible.

Hurricane Frances

I chose hurricane Frances. Hurricane Frances started out as a category 4 hitting other places first, but by the time it hit land it was a category 2. Developing from a tropical wave he slowly started gaining speed and turned into a category 4. Hitting other places before the U.S.A. around Stuart, Florida it lost some of it's categories turning into a category 2. After hitting Florida, it traveled to North Carolina. It was almost 6 feet tall and was associated with over a hundred tornadoes. This hurricane caused $8.9 billion in damage. 9 people have died from this hurricane.

Best Blog and the Oceans

I think my best blog was the wordle words blog (#6). This is because I felt the most confident about this blog. It made me familiarize myself with the new words making me feel more confident on the test. At the best I think I deserve a 80 because I don't think I did very well on them. I feel I could do better now that I'm familiar with the content discussed.
My favorite topic this quarter was chapter 16, dealing with the water. I always loved the ocean and I guess this was a way of learning what trying goes on in it. I will never look at it the same way. I will only look at it with more fascination and see what troubles they go through daily, monthly and even yearly.

Chinese Earthquake:Giant Pandas Rescued

I chose the article Chinese Earthquake: Giant Pandas Rescued. Telegraph.co.uk published this article. The author, Richard Alleyne, wrote this to inform what is happening in China. China had an earthquake and they are trying to save some of the pandas. I personally agree with this thesis because pandas are becoming endangered and we have to step up or we loose them.

The Aged Earth

1. How were Rodinia and Pangaea similar and different from each other?
The Rodinia had more space in between therefore not making the one continent. The Pangaea had almost all of the land together as one. Though the both split up farther apart over time.

2. When did the tectonic plates appear to move the fastest? (biggest difference between two consecutive maps)
From the 150 and 80. They seemed to have the biggest difference when the moved.

3. Look at Pangaea (250 million years ago). If the continents looked like Pangaea today, what would the world be like? Think about governments, sports teams and leagues, and other aspects of life.
Well, there are ups but there are also downs. We may not be able to grow different types of plants that are needed for food. We may not have as much states and countries if we were joined together. Also, depending on the country this could be both good and bad, you can invade for land easier. Traveling would also be easier.

4. Look at Pangaea. If you could pick any place in Pangaea to start a modern civilization, where would you pick? Why? (there is a key on the bottom of the page that explains what the little letters in the maps stand for. For example, "ar" means Arabia.)
I would choose Africa because there is a fair amount of land which gives you more places to build for a better economy. Though you would need enough people willing to be in the military so you can be protected from invastions. You can grow a fair amount of plants also to help the ecomony so people could have more food. Where the continent is located would give you a small, but choice, of the climate you may want to live in.

Time of Earth

1. Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary, and Quaternary.

2. Cami ordered Sally's dessert, Mississipian Peanut Pie. Terry Jurassic came teetering quickly.

3. D, A, E, B, C

Going through Earth

1. The deepest mine was about 2 meters.

2. You would have to dig 6, 378km to get to the mantle.

3. The crust was easy to get through and wasn't too hot. The mantle would probably be an orangey red and liquid. Though it wouldn't be too liquidy it would be like silly putty. It would begin to get hotter and thicker as we kept digging. When we reached the outer core it would be thicker, feeling strictly like spoiled milk, than when we first reached the mantle. It was a little darker color than the mantle was. When I finally reached the inner core it was extreamly hot getting hotter and hotter as I went through. It was very thick and was very hard to move through. It was a dark red and the gravity of it felt like it was pressing down on us. Barely able to walk through the thickness we reached out into the outer core again. Finding it easier to move we slowing started making out way back to the surface. When we finally got to our destination people looked at us weird because we were covered from the inside of Earth.

What car would you get?

Well, it depends on what type of car you want. Do you want a fast car or do you want good mileage? Depending on that you could get a Corvette, Camaro, F-150, Avalanche, etc. Though those don't always give you the best for your money. If you really want to go for saving money a great car could be from Acura such as their TL.

Blog #3

I used Bauxite and Halite for cooking. I also have used Calcite for both medicine and toothpaste. I wear both silver and gold jewelry. This is just a short list of the minerals I have used and use almost everyday.

I have to say I like the Robinson Map the most. I know I'm learning about new maps. It's the map I grew up with and am most familiar with. It's easier for me to read what it's asking for.

Blog Post #1

I want to learn about Astronmy most. I have always been facinated with the sky and stars. As well as the planets themselves. I mean, everything about Science is interesting but Astronmy is my all time favorite. I enjoy hearing about different things with the planets and stars, etc. How are you supposed to know about the other planets and stars, what produces the light/heat without Astronmy? Astronmy is a great way to learn about the things that go on out in the universe.
